PROJECT FEATURE | NICASIO
Nestled among the rolling hills of Nicasio, in an old dairy pasture, lies a charming retreat designed to embrace slow living, appreciate nature and connect with loved ones. As our clients transitioned into retirement and planned for more family gatherings and holidays, they wanted their home to be a place that embodies their passions and lifestyle while creating a comfortable place to relax, explore and make lasting memories for years to come. Combining their love for birding, wildlife, gardening, cooking and gathering with family, this home is a haven for relaxation and connection.
Having previously undertaken individual house projects in a piecemeal manner, the clients recognized the need for a unified plan that would align with their preferences and lifestyle. Seeking guidance on comfortable furnishings and a designer's touch to introduce innovative ideas, they embraced the opportunity to break free from their comfort zones and embrace a more cohesive design scheme.
Through this collaborative effort, the clients and our design team embarked on a transformative journey, creating a home that not only reflected their personalities but also provided them with a welcoming and harmonious environment. By challenging and supporting each other, we forged a partnership that led to the realization of a home where the clients could truly relax, unwind, and make lasting memories.
From the cozy kitchen eating nook where the clients enjoy their morning coffee to the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, every corner of the house was thoughtfully designed to reflect the couple's lifestyle and the home’s setting. Preserving the essence of the original woodwork in the home was a pivotal aspect of the design process, blending original elements with a renewed sense of freshness and modernity.
The home represented a plethora of millwork crafted from various wood species so we paid careful attention to what to preserve and what to recreate in a way that still made it feel original to the home. Collaborating with a contractor who shared the same reverence for fine carpentry and woodworking expertise as the home’s original builder, was crucial in bringing our vision to life. Together, our team and the contractor meticulously navigated the delicate balance between retaining the historic charm of the original woodwork and infusing the space with a contemporary touch.
The result was a home that not only felt fresh and new but also retained a deep-rooted connection to its past, creating a truly timeless and inviting environment for the clients to enjoy for years to come.
